Event Description
The second event of the new initiative “D–ARCH Pathways+” is organised in collaboration with Architektura, the representative body of the students.
This initiative aims to improve understanding and access to academia by exposing the “hidden knowledge” of the university system and demystifying the transition from student to scientific staff, particularly within design studios and research teams.
This mapping of hidden knowledge and thresholds in academia (from the first event in March) will now inform the second event, structured as a fireside chat with guests and concluding with a speed-mentoring session.
Includes Apéro
Part A – Fireside chat with invited guests
moderated discussion with:
– a tenure-track junior/assistant professor
– doctoral candidates from all five institutes
– design studio assistants (junior and more senior)
Focus
– understand the thresholds and the “hidden knowledge” for a successful career in academia, be it in design or research;
– discuss questions such as ‘How to apply?’, ‘How to get a position at the Mittelbau level?’, ‘How to navigate setbacks?’, and ‘How to secure funding?’
Part B – Speed-mentoring sessions
match-making
facilitate short peer-to-peer chats between:
– BSc & MSc students
– Students and HiWis (student assistants, teaching assistants)
– Students and Doctoral Students
– Students and Design Studio Assistants
– Doctoral Students and PostDocs & Junior Professors
– Design Studio Assistants & Doctoral Students
Goal
Establish informal peer-groups across all levels of experience at the D–ARCH.
